Masala Vadai

Masala vadai is one of the most famous tea time snack of Tamilnadu. It will be available in almost every single tea shop. Its crisp outside and soft inside. Made out of chana dal, it’s a healthy snack too:)

Ingredients

Chana dal- 1 cup
Red chillies- 5-6
Fennel seeds- 1 tsp
Hing- 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Onions- 2, chopped finely
Chopped curry leaves – 1 tbsp
Chopped coriander leaves- 1 tbsp
Oil for frying

Method
Wash and soak the dal for 2-3 hrs.
Drain the dal completely.There should not be any water at all.
Grind the dal along with red chillies, fennel seeds, salt and hing to a coarse batter. If required add very little water.
To this batter add chopped onions, curry leaves and coriander leaves and mix well.

Shape into medium size vadas.

Heat oil. When it becomes hot enough, drop the vadas gently into the oil. Reduce the flame( medium)and fry till it becomes golden brown.
Serve hot with chutney or ketchup:)
