This is one my own creation. To me rasam is the best comfort food and I love all types of rasam. As I was planning today’s menu for lunch, had this sudden thought of making orange rasam. It came out well and we all really enjoyed this rasam. Hope you all would enjoy too:)
Ingredients
Chopped tomatoes- 1/2 cup
Cooked tuvar dal- 1/2 cup
Fresh orange juice- 1/2 cup
Water- 2 and 1/2 cups
Chopped green chillies- 1 tsp
Chopped ginger- 1 tsp
Rasam powder- 2 tsps
Salt to taste
Melted ghee – 1 tsp
Mustard- 1 tsp
Jeera- 1 tsp
Hing- 1/4th tsp
Chopped cordiander leaves- 1 tbsp
In a heavy bottom pan, add tomatoes, ginger, green chillies, cooked tuvar dal, rasam powder, salt to taste, curry leaves and 1 cup if water. Mix well. Let it boil on a medium flame.
After 10 mins, after it has reduced a little, reduce the flame to low. Mix 1 and 1/2 cups of water to 1/2 cup of orange juice and add it to the rasam. Let it simmer.
When the rasam starts frothing switch off the flame. It should not boil.
Heat ghee in a small pan. To the hot ghee, add mustard, jeera and hing. When the mustard stops spluttering, add the tempering to the rasam. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice. For a better taste, just drizzle little melted ghee over the steamed rice 🙂
