Rice flakes is known as Aval in tamil and Poha in hindi.
Chakkara Pongal is a traditional sweet of Tamil Nadu, made during festival days.
It’s made of rice, little moong dal and jaggery.
Aval Chakkara Pongal is a simple variation of this tradition recipe. It takes much lesser time and very easy to make.
Ingredients
Aval – 1 cup
Grated jaggery- 3/4th cup
Water- 1/2 cup
Hot milk- 1/2 cup
Melted ghee- 4 tbsps
Chopped cashew nuts- 1 tbsp
Raisins- 1 tsp
Cardamom powder- 1/4th tsp
Method
Wash aval well in water. Soak the aval in 1/2 cup of hot milk for 15-20 mins.
Gently mash the aval and keep it aside.
Soak jaggery in water for 10 mins. Dissolve it completely in water and strain it remove any dirt.
Heat a pan. Add the jaggery syrup and let it boil till the syrup becomes slightly thick.
Switch off the flame and add the mashed aval to the jaggery syrup and mix well.
Cook in medium flame adding ghee little by little (3 tbsps).
Cook till the ghee starts separating from the Pongal. Add cardamom powder and mix well.
Heat the remaining ghee, add chopped cashew nuts and raisins. Sauté till the cashews turn golden and the raisins fluff up.
Add it to the Chakkara Pongal and serve hot:)
