This again is my creation, idea inspiration from the show Master Chef. The contestants had to create new recipe using watermelon as the main ingredient. One of the contestant made watermelon othappam. I found that idea to be very interesting.
I have taken the idea from the show and created this recipe. It was such a delight to see the lovely, beautiful and colourful othappam which was very soft and tasty too:)
My family gave a thumps up. I hope you all would enjoy too:)
Ingredients
Semolina- 1/2 cup
Rice flour – 1/2 cup
Oats- 1/4th cup
Yogurt- 1/2 cup
Fresh watermelon juice- 1 cup
Kashmiri red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Cooking soda- 1/4th tsp
Onion- 1 medium sized
Tomato – 1 medium sized
Chopped coriander leaves- 1 tbsp
Sesame oil – as much required to make the othappam.
Method
In a bowl, mix semolina, rice flour, oats, yogurt, salt to taste, chilli powder and watermelon juice to a smooth batter.
Let it rest for 30-40 mins.
Peel, wash and chop onion finely.
Wash and chop to tomato finely.
Mix both chopped onion ,tomato and coriander leaves well and keep it aside.
Before making the othappam, mix 1/4th tsp of cooking soda with the batter and mix well.
Heat the mini othappam tawa ( you can make in regular dosa tawa also).
Brush all the moulds with little oil.
Add some chopped vegetables first.
Then pour batter in each mould, tap the tawa so that the batter spreads uniformly and add little oil on top of the batter.
Close the tawa with a lid. Once the underside is cooked, turn the othappam to the other side and cook for few mins.
Remove from the tawa and serve hot with chutney and sambar 🙂
Very colourful. Mouth watering
Thank you Jayanthi:)
