Today, after a long time I made thenga thogaiyal ( a type of coconut chutney). Generally tamarind is added to give a sharpness and sour flavour to this thogaiyal.
But today, instead of tamarind, I added raw mango to make more healthier and interesting. Everyone at home liked it very much and am happily sharing the recipe with you all:)
Ingredients
Grated coconut( thenga) – 1 cup
Chopped raw mango ( manga) -1/2 cup
Oil – 1 tbsp
Split urad dal ( ullundhu) – 2 tbsps
Red chillies – 7-8
Salt to taste
Hing ( asafoetida/ perungayam) – 1/8th tsp
Method
Heat oil in a pan. Add the urad dal and sauté till it becomes golden. Remove the urad dal and keep it aside. Add add red chillies. Sauté till in turns crisp.
Grind the coconut, raw mango, red chillies, hing and salt to taste to a coarse paste.
Add the urad dal and continue to grind for few more mins. Do not grind it very smooth. It should little coarse( that how I like it:) ).
Serve the thogaiyal with steamed rice drizzled with sesame oil:)
