It’s been long since I made rava idli at home. Today I made with a little variation. I added peas to enhance the protein content of the idli. It will be very ideal for breakfast , kids lunch box or as evening snack for children as it has a good combination of carbohydrates and protein.
The idli was very soft and had a melt in mouth texture. The mild sweetness of peas was an interesting addition to the flavour. Also the light green coloured idlis were really beautiful to look at:)
Boiled fresh peas – 3/4th cup
Rava ( semolina) – 3/4th cup
Yogurt – 3/4th cup
Water – 1/2 cup
Green chillies – 2
Chopped coriander leaves- 1/4th cup
Oil – 4 tsps
Mustard – 1 tsp
Split urad dal ( ullundhu) – 1 tsp
Chana dal – 1 tsp
Hing ( asafoetida) – a pinch
Cooking soda- 2-3 pinches
Salt to taste.
Method
Grind the peas, green chillies and coriander leaves to a coarse paste.
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard. When it starts spluttering, add urad dal, chana dal and hing. Sauté for few seconds till the dal turns golden.
Switch off the gas. Add the rava, coarsely ground peas mixture and salt to taste. Mix well.
Beat the yogurt well and add to the rava mixture. Add 1/2 cup of water and mix again. Let it rest for 10 mins.
Meanwhile put water for steaming in a steamer.
Grease idli plates and keep it ready. When the water starts steaming in the steamer, add 2 pinches of soda to the batter and mix well.
Fill the greased plates with batter and steam it for 12-15 mins or till its done ( if you insert a toothpick, it should come out clean).
Serve the idlis hot with spicy chutney or sambar or both:)
ahaaa yumy!!!!
Thank you:)
